Attendance policy for the DanceEast Academy
DanceEast Academy students are expected to have an attendance rate of 90% and above. Students with injuries are expected to attend classes to observe and make notes where necessary. The course is designed as a complete experience and all elements are compulsory in order for students to achieve the maximum benefit.
If parents/guardians/carers feel that an absence for a reason other than illness is necessary, an Absence Request form should be returned to the Academy Manager at the start of the term in which the absence is required. These are available to download from
Resources for Parents.
Students are strongly advised to work with each other and their tutors to make sure that absences are avoided when possible. This ensures that all students are able to gain maximum benefit from the course, and neither their learning nor the teacher’s planning is disrupted.
Activities outside of the DanceEast Academy
Where no clashes occur, students are encouraged to continue with dance activity outside the Academy scheme, (as long as they are able to have at least one rest day per week). The Academy team welcome the opportunity to communicate with other dance teachers in order to inform them about student's Individual Training Plans and work they are doing as part of the DanceEast Academy training.
There may be occasions where it is felt that students are taking on too much, which may be hindering progress and causing fatigue. In these cases tutors will speak to the parents/guardians/carers in order to find a solution. Difficult choices may need to be made, but the ultimate decision always lies with the family.
At the start of the year students should advise other dance teachers of their Academy commitments, so that exams and rehearsals can be scheduled accordingly. It is requested that, where possible, dance exams and performances are not scheduled to clash. Where clashes are unavoidable, parents/guardians/carers should speak to the Academy team as early as possible.
Special allowances may be made with attendance requirements for activities that will benefit individual students (that provide opportunities not on offer as part of the Academy scheme).
