DanceEast’s newly-formed movement and dance sessions, StowMovers, will launch in Stowmarket on Friday 22 September, running every week until Friday 8 December, helping Suffolk to become England’s Most Active County.

StowMovers, held at the John Peel Centre, aims to provide the invaluable trio of movement, dance and a cup of tea for people over 55. The sessions hope to make dance and movement more accessible by pairing the activity with the chance to meet new people in a friendly relaxed environment. By encouraging more people to enjoy dance as a sociable activity, StowMovers means the opportunity to get moving in an informal way, and to have fun whilst doing so.

StowMovers will run as a weekly session for both men and women over 55. The sessions are designed to boost mental and physical health, include a chance to socialise and connect with others, but most importantly to have fun. Sessions are free of charge, running from 2.00 – 4.00pm to include time for refreshments. Sessions will be led by experienced dance artists and are suitable for all levels of mobility: and no dance experience is necessary.

To aid the running of sessions and enjoyment of participants, DanceEast is looking for volunteers to support its weekly StowMovers sessions. If you can spare a few hours each week to help support this new initiative, welcoming people, joining in with the class and sharing a cup of tea and chatter at the end of each session, StowMovers could be the opportunity for you. No dance experience is necessary, just some energy and a sense of humour. To volunteer, email carole.creasey@danceeast.co.uk or call 01473 235572.
