Big Dance goes East
Saturday 5 July – daytime – everybody dance!
Be a part of the region-wide Big Dance with special Ip-Art events to get everyone dancing. Visit the free trade fair in Gallery 3, open from 12noon, with stands and stalls from Suffolk’s many dance schools, clubs and organizations.
There’s a six hours of non-stop dance on offer with a programme of open-to-anyone dance classes, from ballet to ballroom, musical theatre to Latin American, hip hop to belly dancing and there’s something for all ages and abilities. Why not try disco or jazz, contemporary or salsa? There are even classes for tiny tots to try out their first dance steps. So take a break from shopping and try out some new moves as part of this fun day-long festival of dance for everyone.

Saturday 5 July – evening – World dance celebrations
The day-long dance celebrations move into the evening with a fabulous show of world dance, headlined by internationally acclaimed dance company Hofesh Schecter performing their high energy all male award-winning Uprising. DanceEast’s Ipswich-based youth dance company, JS, will follow with a performance of a specially commissioned piece by East Anglian dance artist and choreographer Isobel Cohen.
CSV and Ipswich Community Radio are presenting the rest of the evening’s world dance showcase with performances by Egyptian, Indian and Portuguese dancers. If you can’t sit still why not try the world dance workshops on offer – from African to Flamenco . The night’s finale is a World Music party with DJ and dancing to the early hours, plus international cuisine and drinks to keep energy levels high!
