DanceEast's New Chairman Announced
DanceEast is pleased to welcome businessman and entrepreneur
Martyn Rose as its new Chairman. Martyn took up his post on 21 April and is looking forward to leading DanceEast through the next stages of visionary development in the new Jerwood DanceHouse. Martyn and his wife Pippa have been supporting DanceEast for many years.
Martyn qualified as a barrister before forming a corporate finance boutique specialising in refinancing and restructuring smaller companies in 1975. At the age of 34 he became chairman of his first publicly listed company and has, since that time, been chairman of over twenty five public and private companies. At present he is chairman of six companies within print software, online academic research, household products manufacture, fine art, engineering and financial services. These are all companies that he has either co-founded or joined at an early stage to develop the businesses. His successes in business restructuring and start-ups are numerous, having for a time in the early '90's been a nominated company doctor for one of the major clearing banks.
In September 2002 Martyn was nominated and short listed for The Non-Executive Director of the Year Award in the first ever National Business Awards. He was invited to be a judge for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2003, 2004, and 2005. Once again he was invited to judge the Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2006.
Following his appointment as Patron and latterly Trustee of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust he has raised £2m for the Trust including the largest ever single donation.
In July 2007, Martyn was appointed co-chair, with Michael Gove, of the National Citizen Service program for 16 year olds, one of David Cameron's key manifesto initiatives.
In April 2009, Martyn was asked to be co-chair with Theresa May of the Get Britain Working policy group led by Lord David Freud. In December 2009 he co-founded the Big Society policy initiative and became senior advisor to the New Schools Network, a policy close to Michael Gove the Shadow Education Minister.
Martyn takes on the role after James Hehir suddenly passed away at the end of 2009 from interim chair Lyn Goleby.
Artistic Director and Chief Executive Assis Carreiro said
