DanceEast's Rough Cuts series goes from strength to strength
DanceEast’s autumn and winter season is set to feature both established and rising choreographers in a series of Rough Cuts at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich.
The Rough Cuts series offers the public an opportunity to experience some exciting fresh work in progress from a range of choreographers, including
Ben Duke (Lost Dog) and
Arthur Pita. Arthur’s last piece at the Jerwood DanceHouse,
God’s Garden, played to rave reviews.
Choreographer
Darren Johnston explores sound and visual 3D illusions with his new research project and
DanceEast’s Associate Artist Darren Ellis returns to the DanceHouse with a second Rough Cut.
For the first time,
internationally acclaimed and locally based physical theatre company, Gecko will be in residence at the DanceHouse during the month of January presenting two Rough Cuts to support the development of their new work.
As the name suggests, Rough Cuts offer a very different experience to watching a finished piece, and the precise format differs from artist to artist. The audience gets to watch the creative process at close hand in the intimate setting of DanceEast's studio theatre, on the Ipswich waterfront. Feedback thoughts in a question and answer session, which may help shape the final piece!
Assis Carreiro, Artistic Director and Chief Executive said:
‘DanceEast has conceived the Rough Cuts programme to offer choreographers, who are in residence at the Jerwood DanceHouse, the opportunity to develop new work in our state of the art production facilities. It also enables choreographers to build a dialogue with audiences, which supports the creative process before it a piece premieres and tours. Such opportunities are rare and much needed to support the creation of new work to its fullest potential.’
