Royal Opera House premieres new work in Ipswich
Pleasure's Progress, created by Will Tuckett; A Tale of Sex! Wigs! Wags! 'N' Bawds
Friday 18 June, 7.30pm and Saturday 19 June, 2pm, 7.30pm, Jerwood DanceHouse
This premiere of ROH2's new commission combines dance, voice and new music to explore the vistas and vision of the English painter, printmaker and satirist William Hogarth (1696-1764).
In this eagerly anticipated new work, Director and Choreographer Will Tuckett brings Hogarth's dark pictorial narratives bang up to date, drawing on material from some of his most celebrated work including -
A Rake's Progress,
Marriage - A - la mode,
A Harlot's Progress,
Four Stages of Cruelty and
Beer Street and Gin Lane, combining a vivid slice of historical Covent Garden with contemporary urban life.
'Pleasure's Progress is fun and youthful.....It's an opera/ballet for a Skins generation.' Will Tuckett
With a cast of dancers, singers and musicians, a witty libretto by Alasdair Middleton, beautiful music by Paul Englishby, contemporary designs by Jon Bausor, lighting by Jon Clark and sound by Paul Groothius, this new production promises wit and wonder, fun and frolics and an irreverent take on the darker side of society.
