DanceEast has been providing Rural Retreats for artistic leaders and aspiring leaders in dance since 2003. Thanks to the support of Arts Council England, the Rayne Foundation, and others, DanceEast is delighted to announce exciting opportunities for those working in dance.
Six bursaries of £6,000 each are offered for people working in dance and wishing to explore contexts and perspectives beyond dance through a self-designed and self-managed programme of one or more placements between January 2016 and June 2017.
Placements are intended to enable emerging dance leaders to experience challenges and working cultures in sectors other than dance. They might include charitable or commercial organisations, other cultural industries, agencies tackling social disadvantage or institutions such as prisons, hospitals and the armed forces. The ambition is that placements will be mutually beneficial, and will build empathy, understanding and bonds between dance and the wider social world as well as bringing new perspectives and ideas to dance leadership.
Successful applicants do not need to have attended a Rural Retreat, but will be expected to attend a small number of seminars, networking and other events arranged by DanceEast. Placements can be of any length and format and be in any setting. Applicants will be expected to make the case for their proposal together with a budget.
Deadline for applications has now closed.
