On Thursday 5 January, 14 directors of international dance companies arrived in Ipswich for DanceEast’s tenth Rural Retreat; a unique opportunity for established artistic leaders from within the dance sector to come together in an international exchange to discuss the future of dance.
Directors included: Mark Baldwin, Rambert Dance Company; Robert Curran, Louisville Ballet; Thomas Edur, Estonian National Ballet; Caroline Finn, National Dance Company, Wales; Christopher Hampson, Scottish Ballet; Ingrid Lorentzen, Norwegian National Balllet; David McAllister, The Australian Ballet; Kevin O’Hare, The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden; Johannes Ohman, Royal Swedish Ballet; Madeleine Onne, Hong Kong Ballet; Krzysztof Pastor, Polish National Ballet; Janek Schergen, Singapore Dance Theatre; Adam Sklute, Ballet West & Ballet West Academy.
Rural Retreats have become a key annual event in the dance calendar, essential for sector development and the sharing of best practice. The 2017 retreat will focus specifically on audiences, takes place over four days at DanceEast’s home, the Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich and is facilitated by Isabel Mortimer and Jo Wright with guest speakers Ann Wixley, Jennifer Curry and Roger Wright CBE.
