We have a two-stage audition process for September 2021 entry. Everyone who applies will be invited to take part in a Stage One audition. Shortlisted applicants are then invited to attend a Stage Two audition. We encourage everyone to apply to audition, no matter previous dance experience. Our auditions are designed so that everyone can take part and have fun!
Applications are accepted from enthusiastic young people from all backgrounds, aged 10-16 years on point of entry in September, from across the East of England. Both non-experienced and experienced young dancers are encouraged to apply.
Before you apply, you can find out all about the DanceEast CAT via our digital CAT Brochure and by watching the recording of our Digital Open Day.
Before completing your Stage One Digital Audition, please ensure that you have completed and submitted our Audition Application Form. Please be aware that we will not be able to accept any audition responses without a fully completed application form.
AUDITION SUBMISSIONS WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY 6 JUNE.
We want our auditions to be a positive and enjoyable experience for all. We’re looking for potential, not polished performances, so don’t worry if you make a few mistakes, the most important thing is that you have fun!
For the Stage One audition, we would like you to record and submit your responses to the digital audition workshops included below. This will include:
Before beginning any of the practical audition videos, please make sure that you have warmed up and completed our SAFE PRACTICE CHECKLIST to ensure you are in a suitable space.
We’d also recommend that you read of our TOP TIPS for how to have the best audition experience possible.
This is a chance for us to get to know you better, make sure you tell us your name and age and where you’re from. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself or tell us a bit about your hobbies outside of dance and why you’re interested in joining the DanceEast CAT.
This is a chance for us to see how you perform set movement. Record yourself dancing the technical phrase facing the front, once through, full out. Don’t worry if you make a few mistakes. You do not need to record yourself learning the phrase. You can access the music for this phrase HERE.
This is your chance to show us how you like to move, inspired by the ideas and tasks that CAT Tutor, Tom has given you. You only need to record your final phrase. You do not need to record the warm-up tasks or you creating your phrase. You can use one of the tracks of music from HERE, or feel free to dance to a track of music you like.
Once you have recorded your three videos we would like you to upload them to THIS FOLDER.
Please note that this is a private folder which only the DanceEast CAT Audition panel will have access to, your footage will not be viewable to anyone else.
Please make sure that each video is submitted with with your name attached.
ALL AUDITION RESPONSES SHOULD BE SUBMITTED BY SUNDAY 6 JUNE.
If we have any issues accessing your video, or think there may be some footage missing, we will be in touch on Monday 7 June.
All applicants will be contacted on Monday 21 June with the outcome of their Stage One Audition.
Our Stage Two auditions are invite-only. Following the Stage One Audition, the DanceEast CAT Team will be in touch and may invite you to attend a Stage Two audition. The Stage Two auditions will be live classes in-person (at DanceEast, Ipswich).
All Applicants will be contacted on Monday 21 June with the outcome of their Stage One Audition

You will only need to attend one Stage Two audition date.
During the Stage Two Audition, you will take part in a contemporary, ballet and creative workshop, as well as a group discussion. You do not need to prepare anything for our Stage Two auditions.
We are aware that there are many challenges with learning and recording dance at home and all we ask is that you try your best. We do not expect a professional standard video or for you to be a professional dancer, we’re interested in seeing your individuality and most importantly, your enjoyment!
