Led by Isaac James, our youth breakdance class is an upbeat, energised session. Dancers will cover the foundations of breaking technique, building on new skills and sequences throughout the term. Develop your dance skill set and learn new tricks!
The breakdance class will involve a warm-up/conditioning preparing participants for the moves they will be covering. These include joint-preparation, arms, core, and leg exercises with dynamic and static stretching.
The class will cover:
- Musicality: Counting music, entering the circle/floor, counting moves
- Moves: Uprock (standing footwork) and downrock (floorwork)
- Drops: Transitions (one move to another)
- Freeze: Holds/poses to finish the set and to finish strong after a set
- Introduction to Powermoves: Spins, whips and floats
- Freestyle cypher or battles for a fun end to the session
Dancers can expect to:
- Learn new skills and tricks
- Discover the fundamentals of hip-hop and breakdance
- Build stamina, strength and athleticism
- Improve balance and coordination
- Be physically challenged
Please wear clothes that you are comfortable moving in and bring a reusable bottle of water. Water fountains can be found on the ground floor and 1st floor of the building.
Term dates: Monday 18 September – Monday 27 November.
Half term: There will be no class on Monday 23 October.

Bursary places are available for this class. DanceEast have been awarded funding from Ipswich Borough Council to launch the DanceEast Bursary Fund. The fund is intended for young people from low-income households, who love to dance or would like to try dance for the first time, and who would otherwise not be able to afford a term’s worth of dance activity. YOUTH CLASSES TASTER EVENING
Discover our youth dance programme this Autumn with an afternoon of taster classes for ages 11-16! Our professional dance artists will guide you through a typical breakdance and contemporary class, to give you a taste before booking a full term. You’ll have a tour of the studios, meet the team, learn basic technique and sequences and have the chance to ask lots of questions, all in a friendly, supportive space. The classes will be taught at beginner level with no prior dance experience required.
