Contemporary Workshop with Hayley Lemon

The class will start with a fun and easy warm up, followed by some taught movement, drawing on contemporary and some other styles. There will then be a short and simple creative task where you’ll get the opportunity to make the movement your own.

After that, we’ll finish with a cool down and 15 minute Q&A session.

This session will focus on having fun and finding the joy in movement, celebrating why and how we like to move.

Hayley is an Essex and Suffolk based dance artist. Hayley studied for her BA (Hons) in Dance and Professional Practice, and MA in Dance Performance and Choreography at The University of Bedfordshire. As an artist Hayley’s work spans a number of roles including teaching, choreographing and performing.

Hayley is currently a core tutor on the class programme at DanceEast, Artist in Residence at The Sixth Form College Colchester, lead artist for The Dance Network Association’s Youth Company, runs her own classes for local professional artists, and teaches on a number of local community projects.

As a dance artist Hayley is particularly keen to engage young dancers from diverse backgrounds, widening access to youth dance in the East region, and encouraging more young people to think about creative careers. In 2019 Hayley created a new piece with young dancers from The Sixth Form College Colchester, the piece was chosen to represent the East region at the national U.Dance platform at the Southbank in London.

Hayley says:

providing young people with professional performance opportunities outside of their educational setting is something I think is incredibly important to do and U.Dance is one of the best places to do that. I am thrilled to be teaching at the regional U.Dance platform this year and can’t wait to see all the local young people getting involved.”
