Dance For Parkinson’s | Zoom

Established in 2010, English National Ballet’s Dance for Parkinson’s programme offers a warm welcome to join our ENB Parkinson’s family, to experience the joy of dancing to live music, socialising and meeting new people, seeing dance performances and unique opportunities to meet the creatives and world renowned guest artists.

The components of the dance class, the artistic freedom and the social aspect of ENB’s Dance for Parkinson’s can help with managing daily living with Parkinson’s. Dancing can enhance fluidity of movement, develop postural stability, flexibility of the spine and improve balance, and these classes have been proven to support people with Parkinson’s by developing self-confidence and strength, and temporarily relieving some participants of their day-to-day symptoms. The use of rhythm and voice can also help with cueing movement and expression.

For Summer 2021, classes will be inspired by two works from ENB’s digital season; Jolly Folly choreographed by Arielle Smith (a continuation from last term), and Laid in Earth choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. If you’d like to have a look at this new piece before our exciting WatchParty event, you can rent the work here.

Classes run weekly through DanceEast’s digital DanceHouse, every Wednesday, 2.00pm – 3.15pm via Zoom. These classes fit within DanceEast’s Pay What You Can model; £3, £5 or £7 a class.

Delivered by English National Ballet Associate Dance Artist Abbie Biscoe and Associate Musician Nathan Tinker, you will creatively explore the themes, music and choreographic language of this term’s chosen pieces across the eight sessions. All classes for the summer term will be delivered entirely live via Zoom, including live performed music.
As with our previous studio-based classes, there is a capacity limit for this class, so we advise booking soon to avoid disappointment.

WATCHPARTY

As part of the class on Wednesday 19 May we’ll be watching Laid in Earth by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. So, make sure you book your place if you don’t want to miss out!

If you require further support with downloading Zoom to your digital device or have any other digital access questions, please use our ‘How to Zoom’ guide or feel free to contact Vicky Cullum- Creative Team Coordinator at vicky.cullum@danceeast.co.uk.

It is now five years since Dance for Parkinson's began and I went to the first class; I always find it so uplifting.  Kate, Calvin, the volunteers and the rest of the class are always such good company, and although participants have come and gone over the years, newcomers are very much welcomed and encouraged.

Don't be put off by the word "Dance" or "Ballet". No one is going to criticize or judge you. It is such an enjoyable experience, probably out of our comfort zones, but so worthwhile and all happening in the company of friendly people.

The whole experience is lovely and compensates for not being able to be in the Studio. It is wonderful what has been achieved by Kate & Matt, and all at DanceEast in bringing the dance experience to us in our homes during this time of lockdown, so a big "thank you" to everyone
