Yoga | Ashtanga (16+)

Yoga is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures.

This Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class is open to all levels of yoga practitioner whether experienced or a complete beginner. As Ashtanga is a strong and dynamic practice, there’s no rest between poses, we do ask that you have a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the full potential of the class. Classes start with a few moments to arrive and connect with the breath then the opening sequences of Surya Namaskaras, some standing and seated postures and something always thrown in for fun or to challenge you!

Ashtanga is a set sequence of postures so if you attend regularly you will soon start to achieve familiarity with the poses. As this is a strong style you will work hard, smile, and get hot! Class closes with a final relaxation to allow you to absorb the practice and leave feeling refreshed.

Some people find that the physical practice of yoga becomes a gateway into spiritual exploration, while others just enjoy a wonderful low-impact workout that makes them feel great. Typically, a DanceEast yoga class will focus purely on the physical benefits of yoga.

Katharine's yoga journey began in 1996 in London with Satyananda and Sivananda Yoga, returning to Kerala to train to teach Sivananda in 2004. A few years later, Katharine found Ashtanga in Goa and loved the heat and intensity of practice, the constant breath and flow - she then went to Mysore to practice under Sharath and Saraswati.

What to wear

You can wear any loose, comfortable clothing that you can move freely in, and we do ask that you have bare feet.
