Evening Ballet

WHAT TO EXPECT

This class allows you to experience the elegant moves of ballet focusing on alignment, posture and coordination.

The class begins with barre work to warm up and to practise the techniques and positions needed for centre work. The second half of the class moves into the centre to practise a mixture of turns and small allegro (jumping) moves. The class ends with a slow stretch on the floor.

If you join us for Ballet, you can expect a fun class. You improve your posture and co-ordination whilst becoming stronger, more flexible and improving your wellbeing. You will learn the French terminology for ballet moves, and each move will be explained in English too.

 

IS THIS CLASS FOR YOU?

All levels of experience will enjoy this class, whether you’ve danced before or not. Any ability can join and there will be options to modify an exercise to make it more simple or difficult – so you can adapt this class to suit your own ability.

The Tutor will go over each exercise in detail before performing it with the music. They will also demonstrate each exercise with the music for you to copy if you would like the extra help.

My advice… DO IT! Everyone has to start somewhere and the reason you do a class is to learn, not because you are expected to know it all already! HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CLASS

You should wear anything that you feel comfortable to move in and that is non-restrictive e.g. leggings or workout gear. Some of our class attenders like to come in tights and a leotard, while others are more comfortable wearing a t-shirt and gym leggings. Don’t worry if you don’t have ballet shoes – you can dance with bare feet!

Make sure you have water to hand, it’s important to stay hydrated! Before you join the class, you may wish to look up the basic ballet positions of the feet and the arms.

Laura Bryars

Laura started her professional dance training on the CAT at the Northern School of Contemporary dance. After 3 years of intense training, she moved to London to continue her dance and musical theatre training at the Urdang Academy. After graduating in 2012, Laura has worked professionally across the country, working with dance companies ( Rambert, Phoenix dance Theatre), musicals (the fix, Billy Liar, panto) and went on a UK tour with the John Godber Theatre company with “Teechers”. Laura has participated in TV adverts and has recently began teaching at DanceEast. Laura was a part of Matthew Bourne's New Adventures 2019/20 cohort, and runs a buggy bootcamp for mums in her local area in addition to teaching adult ballet in her local Community, and isa dance associate for Ipswich Town Football Club community trust.
