DanceEast Centre for Advanced Training Alumni & Parent
"I applied for the DanceEast CAT Scheme at the age of 12, after being encouraged to look into the scheme by my Dance teacher at school and my Mother. At first I wasn’t sure, as I hadn’t done much contemporary dance before, but I am super glad I took the risk and auditioned! I ended up loving the classes in my audition and I was lucky enough to obtain a place. I studied on the DanceEast CAT scheme for 5 years and without this amazing scheme I wouldn’t have got to where I am today, currently in my 2nd year at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. DanceEast has supplied me with so many great opportunities over the years and has meant that, even with a restricted amount of money, I could still get the training, uniform and travel expenses I needed to live my dream."
Freya Brown, CAT Alumni
"It was one Saturday in Colchester when Freya came out of the DanceEast taster session and said, ‘I want to go there, Mum, I had such a great time!’ Those few words were to send us on a 5-year journey that would shape her progression into a dance career forever. For both myself and Freya, the commitment was huge, making the 100-mile round trip 3 times a week from rural Essex to Ipswich, but as a parent I felt this was more than worthwhile. As a single parent on a relatively low income, we were able to access funding, so my commitment was just my time. During this time, DanceEast shaped and nurtured Freya as a dancer, as well as giving her many fantastic opportunities within the dance world. For me, I had the privilege of not only participating in Freya’s journey to full-time vocational training but also watching her friends there taking the same journey. For those five years, DanceEast became part of our family. "
