CHARLOTTE ARNOLD

I first encountered DanceEast when Tom Hobden came to my secondary school to lead a workshop, he then suggested that I audition for the Dance East CAT Scheme. After successfully auditioning for the DanceEast CAT in 2009 and spending four years exploring contemporary dance and working with some amazing choreographers such as James Cousins, Etta Murfitt and dancers from Hofesh Shechter Dance Company I gained a place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance on their degree course.

Currently, I have just graduated from a NSCD with a First, and have embarked on a Masters degree at the same school. My postgraduate course is formed by an apprenticeship with a professional dance company-  Black Box Dance Company, who are located in Jutland, Denmark. Throughout my apprenticeship I get to perform and tour as a company member and explore a whole new culture and language which is wholly exciting to me. After my apprenticeship in Denmark I will return to Leeds to complete the research project to make up the full Masters course. After that, who knows?

Oh, how I think about that dance workshop verging on eight years later and how it completely changed my career ambitions. Undoubtedly, without my time at DanceEast I would not be where I am today. The CAT team opened my eyes to the world of contemporary dance which is such a rich, evolving medium which gives me constant enjoyment. Eight years later I am a performing dance artist and I never thought I would reach here when I was younger. Thank you!
