We’ve had lots of help from our student ambassadors, so we thought it would great for you to know more about them!

ALICIA GOOCH

Student Ambassador

“I am a final year student on the DanceEast/ University of Suffolk’s Dance Ba Hons degree, and as part of my placement I am involved with the organisation and delivery of the U.Dance East regional platform this year.

I have had a variety of experiences in a range of settings throughout the creative and performing arts industries that I hope to bring to this exciting event.

It has been inspiring to see an event that is focussed on celebrating the excellence and innovation of youth dance, and to see how it has evolved to meet this years’ circumstances.”

LUCY HALFPENNY

Student Ambassador

“I am a second-year student studying a BA (Hons) Contemporary Dance Degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. As part of my second year placement I am assisting with the organisation and delivery of U.Dance regional platform event 2021.

In 2018, I performed in the U.Dance festival with a piece choreographed by Joss Arnott during my time on the Dance East Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Scheme. This experience was significant for me, the atmosphere of the festival was so cohesive, with a real shared sense of love for dance. Additionally, it was so inspiring to watch the other groups perform and applaud what they had developed creatively.”

EMILY HODGSON

Student Ambassador

“I am also a final year student on the DanceEast/University of Suffolk’s Dance Ba Hons degree, and as part of my placement I am involved with the planning and delivery of the U.Dance East regional platform.

I’m really excited to see the day evolve from supporting the planning to delivery, I can’t wait to celebrate youth dance in the region, especially after the challenging year we have all had.”

ANNA-LOUISE MCMINN

One Dance UK Ambassador

“I am an Eastern based dancer, teacher and movement maker on a mission to advocate dance for any body and everybody. This will be the second time that I have supported the U.Dance Festival as a One Dance UK Ambassador.

Working within a range of artistic and community settings has allowed me to witness the benefits of dance for everybody and I’m looking forward to supporting this inclusive and welcoming dance event that attracts such a wide variety of young people.

I am excited to contribute to this brilliant festival which celebrates youth dance and plays a pivotal role in supporting the development of youth dance in our region and nationally.”

JODIE NUNN

One Dance UK Ambassador

“I trained at the Royal Academy of Dance graduating with a First-class honour’s degree in Ballet Education and Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance (LRAD) with Distinction.

I currently work as a Freelance Dance Teacher, delivering classes in RAD graded and vocational graded ballet, contemporary, musical theatre, body conditioning and dance for older learners, alongside my studies in MA Dance Politics and Sociology at University of Roehampton.

My dance research interests sit firmly within the relationship between dance and political and sociological theory; I am particularly passionate about the ways in which dance and activism intertwine and can inform one another. I am interested in dance’s innate and often untapped ability to invoke change and illuminate social injustices.

I am also a One Dance UK Dance Ambassador; this year marks my second year working with One Dance UK in this capacity. My role as an ambassador involves advocating for dance at various local, regional and national platforms, such as U.Dance; organising, hosting and attending events run by One Dance UK; and operating as ‘on the ground’ ambassadors for dance in the UK.”

EMILIA RAMSEY

One Dance UK Ambassador

“I am a final year student on the BA (Hons) Dance course at the University of Suffolk in partnership with DanceEast. I am also a Dance Ambassador for One Dance UK and I am volunteering to assist the organisation and presentation of the regional U.Dance platform 2021.

This is my first year working with U.Dance and One Dance UK as an Ambassador. I am excited to learn new skills and experience more organisational practice instead of being on my usual teaching/delivery side of events. I am honoured to collaborate with this project and have a preview of what the next generation of young dancers and performers have to offer this ever-changing industry.”
