Applications are now open for the first ever Young Rural Retreat for young people with the ambition and potential to be the dance leaders of the future

30 Oct 2015

DanceEast, Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich, Suffolk, England
Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 August 2016

  • Are you aged between 18 and 21 and passionate about dance?
  • Do you want to meet leading industry professionals?
  • Do you want to discover management skills fit for a dance career?
  • Do you dream of making an impact on the future of dance?

Young Rural Retreat
will take place at DanceEast’s purpose-built home, the Jerwood DanceHouse, on Ipswich’s waterfront. Over four days, 25 to 28 August 2016 you will hear from leaders in and beyond dance, explore what leaders do, the skills they need, the challenges they face and ways of dealing with difficult situations.

The Retreat will be led by two facilitators, including Christopher Hampson, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet. Christopher has participated in previous Rural Retreats for aspiring and existing dance leaders, and as a speaker.  Each day will start with a short class or warm-up. There will be time to listen and reflect, to discuss and discover different ideas, to work with people who share your passion, and to make new friends.

Young Rural Retreat is open to people aged 18 to 21 from anywhere in the world.  Participants will be selected on the basis of the attached application form, with the intention of bringing together people from different backgrounds and with different experiences and perspectives.

Most of the costs, including accommodation and catering, will be covered by DanceEast, with participants making a small contribution of £50 (in sterling and inclusive of VAT). Participants will be responsible for their own travel to and from Ipswich.
