Working with a range of artists and companies from across the UK and international partners, the Associate Artist scheme is the top-level strand of support for dance artists offered at DanceEast. The collaborative relationships run over a two-year period and support three Associate Artists and for the first time, a Junior Associate, an artist in the earlier stages of their career.
Brendan Keaney, Artistic Director and Chief Executive of DanceEast comments ‘We had a truly inspiring response to our call out for this scheme from a really exciting group of artists. Consequently, trying to decide on the final cohort was extremely difficult. We have chosen four individuals pursuing very different lines of artistic enquiry, however, they all share the ambition to make a step change in their practice over the next two years. Most critically they also share our ambition to further develop the quality and diversity of the artistic offer here in the East of England, so I am really looking forward to getting started!’
The Associate Artists are provided with a bursary of up to £5000 each as well as bespoke support tailored to the needs of the individual. This includes access to the state of the art facilities at the Jerwood DanceHouse, the chance to present and share work, production support and guidance from the DanceEast team and the opportunity to work across the wider creative programme; engaging across the organisation to collaborate, devise and test ideas.
