This weekend DanceEast joins the national celebration Silver Sunday with a free event at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich.
On Sunday 5 October, from 1.00 – 4.00pm DanceEast will be hosting free dance workshops in ballet, contemporary (Time To Dance) and Nia dance. Dancing is a great way to keep the body and mind active, meet new people, have fun and get fit. The dance styles chosen have been specifically selected to suit mature individuals.
DanceEast have teamed up with ActivLives who will be providing free health MOTs throughout the event. ActivLives works across Suffolk to deliver initiatives that help motivate, support and inspire people living in areas of deprivation, make positive changes to their lifestyle and improve their own health and well-being and employability.
Silver Sunday was launched in 2012 by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation and Councillor Christabel Flight, after a report discovered more than a third of people over 75 said they were lonely. Silver Sunday is offering the older generation a chance to keep active in body and spirit, try new things, meet new people and, ultimately, overcome loneliness.
DanceEast hopes to find some new recruits for their resident performance company, The Elderberries who have recently returned from performing at Sadler’s Wells. Recruitment for new members happens throughout September and October and there is still a chance to apply for this year.
Silver Sunday 2014 is set to be bigger and better with events happening right across the UK. Although the dance workshops are free it is recommended that bookings are made in advance to avoid disappointment.
