DanceEast is delighted to announce a great line-up for audiences of all ages for spring 2017. Performing on Ipswich’s Waterfront at the Jerwood DanceHouse in the new year will be internationally recognised dance companies, a bunch of great family friendly shows as well as community projects and showcases. This season a brand new offer means that – the more you watch the more you save! Book 2 shows by 1 January and save 25% or book 3 or more shows by 1 January and save a huge 30%.

With over 70 different languages being spoken in Ipswich today, DanceEast is celebrating this cultural diversity with works inspired by countries and cultures from across the globe. DanceEast is especially proud to welcome internationally recognised choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh to Ipswich for the very first time in February. Having been creating dynamic dance works for over 27 years, Shobana will present Material Men redux performed by two dazzling dancers of Indian heritage.

In March, the classic tale of Carmen is reinterpreted by Tavaziva in Africarmen (12yrs+), fusing ballet, contemporary and African dance to ignite this story of desire, deceit and corruption. Young dancers will also have the opportunity to dance live on stage with this professional touring dance company in a special curtain raiser project – visit our website to find out how you can get involved!

Former DanceEast Associate Artist and inaugural winner of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Choreography Award, James Cousins, returns to DanceEast in May with Rosalind. Created in collaboration with Korean dancers and artists, the curious and courageous Shakespeare heroine embarks on a journey of self-discovery, fuelled by love and oppression.

DanceEast also has performances which are perfect for treating the whole family! Kick starting the spring season is Casson & Friends with Night at the Theatre (4yrs+). Discover the magic of theatre with this fantastic introduction to dance for young people with a hint of audience participation. Northern Ballet return after sell-out performances last spring with Tortoise & the Hare. This Easter they bring to life Goldilocks and the Three Bears with accompanying workshops for ages 4 – 10yrs.

Each year DanceEast provides community projects for people of all ages to engage with great dance. In February, the Jerwood DanceHouse will be packed with incredible dancers from across the East. Spring Showcase features talented local dancers from DanceEast’s performance companies and Centre for Advanced Training. U.Dance East will be a one night only celebration of youth dance with groups from all across the region competing to go through to the U.Dance National Festival in Birmingham. From January, participants from Babergh, Mid Suffolk and Forest Heath districts will be working on DanceEast’s annual community dance project which, this year, is entitled The Inkwell and culminates in a performance in March.

As well as watching dance, you can also Get Dancing with DanceEast’s spring classes, beginning on Monday 9 January – the perfect way to burn off those festive mince pies and finally keep that New Year’s resolution of getting fit and healthy. With tap classes for those who want to master some fancy footwork, hip hop for those who want to let off some steam, and yoga for those who need a bit of relaxation, plus so much more – it’s definitely worth seeing what DanceEast can offer you. Everyone is welcome, so pop in, say hello and try something new this January! And the good news is, the more you dance the more you save! Book 2 dance courses by 1 January and save 25% or book 3 courses by 1 January and save 30%, for more information, call our Box Office team on 01473 295230 or visit our website.
