Host is a day of workshops, performances and debates specifically designed for older dancers as well as practitioners, leaders and choreographers and those working in dance with older people. The day aims to celebrate and explore the artistry of the older dancer, the relationship dance can have to the older performer, and how it can be taught and learned. It will also challenge assumptions about what older dancers can bring to dance.
Presented by DanceEast and its performance company EncoreEast, the day will focus on the voice and experiences of the older dancer, featuring guest speaker Betsy Gregory, as well as a range of workshops lead by Joseph Toonga, Mary Davies and The Hiccup Project. A panel discussion lead by EncoreEast dancer, Margaret Williamson will also take place before ending the day with performances from EncoreEast, DWJones Dance Company, Damn Fine Dance Company, Mosaic Performance Company, a duet from Mary Davis and Counterpoint Dance Company.
An EncoreEast company member says: “To dance is to be fully human. It puts me in touch with my younger self and connects me with a wealth of feelings, ideas, other dancers, space, music, audiences. Performing gives purpose and focus, it heightens and intensifies the experience of dancing.”
