Glass House Dance and members of the local community will come together on Saturday 15 June to unearth stories from exhibitions of Lowestoft Museum and share them through dance.

DanceEast and Glass House Dance have worked with a number of groups over the last few months including an open call group, Clock Work Dance Company, Pakefield Academy of Performing Arts, Oulton Broad Primary School and Pakefield Primary School.

We asked Glass House Dance some questions about the project:

  1. Where did the idea of Lowestoft DanceMap: Life at the Museum come from?

The Lowestoft Dance Map is a Making Waves Together project in partnership with DanceEast and Lowestoft Museum. We wanted to bring the exhibitions in the museum to life; animating them and spilling them out into the park through dance. The performance follows a girl’s visit to the museum, which unexpectedly turns into a lively and exciting encounter as everything comes to life.

  1. What can audiences expect from this performance?

The performance will take audiences on a journey around Nicholas Everett Park, where they will be able to watch the groups tell the stories from the exhibitions through dance, from life in the Pye factory to life at Sea.

  1. The performance is themed around forgotten industries of Lowestoft, can you tell us about the forgotten industries of Lowestoft?

The museum exhibits many of Lowestoft’s forgotten industries including the PYE factory who made radios and TV’s in the 50’s and 60’s, Harry Peck, who was a specialist Pin Point expert and shoe repairer, the wherry boats that used transport good across the broads and the many painters that were inspired by Lowestoft’s big skies.
