Move | Be Moved

28 Jun 2016

It’s back! Following last year’s popular festival, DanceEast is delighted to host its second annual Community Dance Festival at the Jerwood DanceHouse in Ipswich. Move | Be Moved begins on Friday 1 July until Wednesday 6 July and involves a variety of performance groups, schools and artists.

Move | Be Moved starts off with the fantastic 7 Schools, 1 Town screening, a collaboration between Gecko and DanceEast. In 12 groups, 30 pupils aged 8 – 10 years have been exploring what it is like to be a student in Ipswich today. This has involved working with 7 schools based in Ipswich, with each group taking part in workshops using dance, physical theatre and film making over the past six months to explore their ideas of place, identity and home.

The Move | Be Moved Performance Platform is a celebratory performance that will showcase the best local community groups from across the region demonstrating the variety and breadth of talent on offer. The groups involved are Boyz United, Suffolk Juniors, Dance Unlimited, Suffolk Youth, Spin Off, DanceEast Centre for Advanced Training, Flux, Mosaic & Full Tilt, Connect, and Unit Youth.

Creative Heart: Raw is an evening of new experimental work in progress from local artists involved in the DanceEast Creative Heart Network. The network is a group of artists working with movement practice who meet regularly to network, share ideas and collaborate. Here, they share their work in its rawest form, presenting ideas and material at different stages of development.

HOST is an interesting event about shifting attitudes to older people in dance performance contexts, focusing on the artistry of choreographing with older bodies. The day will include workshops, a facilitated panel discussion and guest speakers Sonia York-Pryce and Jennifer Jackson, who will be discussing issues and facilitating debates around older people in dance.

The Move | Be Moved Schools Performance Platform is designed specifically to celebrate dance taking place in schools and colleges across the county. It provides the opportunity for young people and children to showcase their dance talents in a professional theatre venue. The schools taking part this year include Primary Steps Bury St Edmunds, Copleston High School, Stour Valley Community School, The Ashley School Academy Trust, Ormiston Sudbury Academy, Grundisburgh Primary School, Kesgrave High School and DanceEast’s Centre for Advance Training.

Don’t miss your chance to witness a variety of performances and events all under one roof at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich! Tickets are available at DANCEEAST.CO.UK or you can call our friendly Box Office Team on 01473 295230 for more information.
