RICHARD ALSTON DANCE COMPANY RETURN TO SNAPE MALTINGS FOR FINAL PERFORMANCE

22 Oct 2019

Richard Alston Dance Company returns to Snape Maltings as part of the company’s farewell tour, which has been taking place across the UK.  After 25 years, the tour is providing the company’s loyal audiences with a last chance to see a live performance by what is undoubtedly one of the world’s best dance ensembles. Over the past 50 years, Sir Richard Alston himself has played a major role in the world of contemporary dance – developing a unique and distinct dance language and shaping the art form in this country.

Final Edition is the company’s final performance and features the world premiere of Alston’s new piece Shine On, a special performance that will be dedicated to Lizzie Fargher, as a thank you for her generous support through The Tezmae Charitable Trust. Shine On is danced to a live performance by soprano Katherine McIndoe and pianist Jason Ridgway of Britten’s first published songs, the W.H. Auden settings On This Island. Ridgway also plays for Brahms Hungarian, danced to Brahms’ hugely popular Hungarian Dances.

This special programme also includes Voices and Light Footsteps, inspired by glorious Monteverdi madrigals and sinfonias, while the pulsating music of American composer Michael Gordon, accompanies Martin Lawrance’s thrillingly energetic Detour.

“Alston is one of the few real dance makers in the world and he can show us how, when real dance comes along, it changes everything” The Dancing Times

Final Edition premieres at Snape Maltings Concert Hall on Friday 1 November at 7.30pm, with an additional performance on Saturday 2 November, also at 7.30pm. Be the first to see this exciting new piece and book your tickets here.
