A fusion of ballet, contemporary and African dance is what makes Bawren Tavaziva’s interpretation of the Carmen story so beautiful, sensual and strikingly powerful. Performed by six stunning dancers, Africarmen ignites this classic tale of desire, deceit and corruption in an African township where military corruption is rife. Carmen dangerously and defiantly ignores all warnings in the perusal of a better life but tragedy follows her like a shadow in hot sun.
This performance is high-energy and fast-paced, taking you on a powerful journey through Carmen’s tragic search for a better life.
The specially commissioned original soundtrack is composed and arranged by composer and trombonist Fayyaz Virji, founding member of The Jazz Warriors and member of the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
