Applications are now open for U.Dance East – a showcase of the finest dance from youth dance groups, companies and schools from across the region, presented by DanceEast and the University of Bedfordshire.

Taking place both live and digitally across two weekends, each regional event will feature workshops, careers panels and performances, and will provide an opportunity for young dancers to connect, learn and celebrate dance!

U.Dance is a national celebration of performance by young people aged 11 – 19 (aged up to 25 for young people with disabilities) and the regional platforms are part of the national programme, which is delivered in partnership with One Dance UK – www.onedanceuk.org

U.Dance East will take place at the University of Bedfordshire on Saturday 19 March and DanceEast on Saturday 26 March 2022.

APPLICATION PROCESS

U.Dance welcomes dancers performing any style or genre and actively encourages inclusive groups to apply to dance at the festival. U.Dance is for everyone! Group leaders should fill in an application form which is available here – U.Dance 2022 Application Form

This year, there will be two application routes:

U.Dance on Stage (for groups who are able to meet in person and create a piece in a studio)

U.Dance on Screen (for groups who are meeting remotely and wish to submit a screen dance piece)

Please note, you can apply to both if you wish to.

Groups must submit at least 2 minutes of footage of the piece to be performed, or film to be screened, as part of the application process. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 17 January 2022.

Please note that all dancers must be UK based and aged 11 – 19 (or up to the age of 25 for dancers with disabilities/additional needs) at the time of the platforms.

All applications will be considered by a panel of industry experts, who will shortlist groups to perform, and films to be screened, at each platform. Groups will be informed at the end of January 2022 whether they have been selected. Two groups from each platform, and each category (Stage/Screen), will then be chosen by an independent panel to be put forward to One Dance UK and one group from each category will eventually be selected to represent the Eastern region at the U.Dance National Festival which will take place in Glasgow in July 2022.

For further information surrounding the application process, please see the One Dance UK U.Dance Guidance Notes here.

OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

If you don’t want to apply to perform at U.Dance East, or submit a dance film, but you would still like your group to get involved, you can register your interest to take part in the digital U.Dance East event, happening on Saturday 26 March 2022, where your group will be able to take part virtually and enjoy a day of digital workshops and activities, and watch performances.

You can also submit a short video snippet to be included in our celebration video!

To register your interest for either of these routes, please complete the main application form above and follow the instructions in the form.

If you have any queries or would like help with your application, please contact the U.Dance East team via email on: u.dance@danceeast.co.uk

Good luck!
