Work Experience and Work Placements

DanceEast is pleased to offer work experience to Year 10 students; and work placements for young people aged 16 – 25. It’s an ideal way to get invaluable experience working in a professional dance setting.

All requests are carefully considered based on how they can support our current programmes of work. Due to the high number of requests, acceptance is not guaranteed.

Technical work experience

DanceEast also offers technical work experience for students who wish to learn more about lighting, sound and stage management. Applicants for technical work experience must be aged 16+ and interested in concentrating on technical theatre work. This placement is highly practical and is likely to involve evening work.

The technical work experience form should ideally be completed electronically and emailed to work.experience@danceeast.co.uk with “Technical work experience application” in the subject line; or sent by post to Work Experience, Jerwood DanceHouse, Foundry Lane, Ipswich IP4 1DW.

DanceEast also accepts requests for work placements from undergraduate and post-graduate students, aged 18 and over. Applications are considered throughout the year.

DanceEast requires a formal letter of application for work placements from undergraduate and post-graduate applicants.

Please include the following in your formal letter:

  • State what you know about DanceEast and our programmes.
  • Tell us why you are interested in working at DanceEast.
  • State any specific projects or departments of interest.
  • Describe any areas that you have identified for self-development.
  • Indicate your availability and tell us if you have any flexibility with the dates for your placement.
  • Please state the number of hours requested for your placement, along with any deadlines

Your letter of application should ideally be completed electronically and emailed to: work.experience@danceeast.co.uk with ‘Request for work placement’ in the subject line; or sent by post to
