Flying Solo: An online choreographic toolkit

The open session has now passed, but Individual Schools workshops are still available – please see below.

Two Thirds Sky are holding online choreographic toolkit sessions for young dancers who are making solo choreography in their own spaces, due to the recent lock-down. The sessions reflect amendments that AQA have made to their 20/21 GCSE and A Level Dance specification; supporting students developing solo choreography because of social distancing.

Making solo work, on your own body, demands a specific sets of skills. It requires a dancer to continually evaluate how their body is tackling the thematic content of their starting point. Lead by choreographer and Artistic Director of Two Thirds Sky Lisa Risdale, this practical online session will get students on their feet; responding to stimuli, developing new movement and structuring what they invent.

Through short clips of professional repertory and bite-size tasks, the session will give students a ‘rough guide’ to making solo choreography. A Follow-Up sheet and link to the recording of Lisa’s session will also be available to teachers and students for future use, along with links to longer excerpts of repertory. (Please note that the video link will only be available up until July 20 2021.)

Please note: the practical tasks will take into consideration that students will be working in a variety of different spaces, and the dance content will encourage creative adaptation and interpretation!

Sessions will be taking place live via Zoom. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Zoom, take a look at our Zoom Guide here. Before you take part, please make sure you read our Safe Practice at Home Checklist click here to download now.
