In partnership with the DanceEast Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) and the GuiDANCE Network.
This online session aimed at dance teachers and those who support dancers, who want a basic introduction to the topic of growth and maturation and its implications or those who feel they would benefit from an update on their knowledge in this area. The 1-hour session includes:
- An overview of the biological basis for change
- Introduction to physiological and psychological development in the dance context
- A review of practical implications in the dance studio
- Information about the DanceEast CAT and how we can work together to support young dancers in the region.
The session will be led by Dr Siobhan Mitchell (University of Exeter).
Suitable for group leaders, dance teachers, private ballet schools, and anyone else who works with young dancers.
Before the session, you will be sent a Zoom link to join the event.
ABOUT SIOBHAN MITCHELL
I trained as a dancer before going on to complete a BA Hons in Dance Studies at the University of Roehampton, an MSc in Dance Science at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and an MRes in Health and Wellbeing at the University of Bath. Awarded a full ESRC studentship in 2014, I completed my PhD at the University of Bath exploring growth and maturation in the context of dance, specifically psychosocial and physical implications of differing maturing timing in adolescent dancers.
Alongside my work as part of the Adolescent Dancer, I work as a research fellow in child and adolescent health. I am passionate about providing education about adolescence and how we can support young people in dance.
