Monday 4 September – Wednesday 6 September | 9.15am – 6.00pm
Aimed at dance artists graduating or reaching the end of their training, this three-day intensive Summer Lab offers emerging artists learning and development opportunities through high quality, aspirational workshops and seminars.
Summer Lab will be led by high-profile artists: Russell Maliphant, Yael Flexer, Renaud Wiser, Vicki Igbokwe, Tom Hobden and Stuart Waters. Each professional dance artist will lead daily sessions for participants, including technique classes and creative workshops, in addition to sessions focusing on helping participants build a professional network, secure funding and marketing portfolio careers.
Participants can experience first-hand what it means to live and work as a professional in the dance industry, whilst networking with this wide range of high calibre artists, companies and sector professionals connected to the East of England. Mentoring support will also be offered throughout and afterwards by Tom Hobden.
Summer Lab is part of DanceEast’s work in contributing to the infrastructure of dance by bridging the gap in provision between professional training and getting young artists career-ready. It aims to connect graduates to the regional dance scene, build a vibrant network of emerging artists and establish a thriving community of dancers living and working in the East.
Summer Lab is led in partnership with UNIT.
UNIT is the East’s leading participatory dance company and was established following a series of highly successful collaborations between choreographer Tom Hobden and film director Kate Flurrie. UNIT creates projects, performances, films and training programmes that support dancers from all backgrounds and experiences.
