Youth Dance Project | 7-11 years

WHAT TO EXPECT

This four-week workshop will explore the ideas behind Akram Khan’s exciting work Chotto Desh, a performance about a young man’s journey and dreams from Britain to Bangladesh.

The piece uses visual effects to help transport you on this mesmerising journey. Using this as a stimulus, you will create your own piece to show your own dreams and journeys, using props and visual aids to bring the piece to life and represent you. You will work towards a sharing at the end of the four weeks that will allow your friends and family to watch what you’ve created during the project, via zoom.

“Creative dance can sound strange and confusing at first, but it’s actually very fun and freeing. There’s no right or wrong, and no difficult terminology. It’s just about a starting point, your imagination and your movement. Just with a little help, guidance and encouragement from me!” Tina Kitley-Sparks, Youth Dance Project Tutor

IS THIS CLASS FOR YOU?

This class is suitable for children aged 7 – 11 years, and no previous dance experience is needed.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CLASS

You should wear anything that you feel comfortable to move in and that is non-restrictive e.g. leggings, tracksuit bottoms, or workout gear. It’s best if you dance bare foot, but this will depend on the space you will be dancing in, so you may prefer to wear socks or dance shoes such as ballet or jazz shoes.

Make sure you have water to hand, it’s important to stay hydrated!

We’ll send you the Zoom links for your classes via email once you have booked, and you’ll be able to join the class up to 15 minutes early.
