Here at DanceEast, we are getting excited for Autumn. We have a range of exciting experiences for children and families to get involved with!

This season, we have lots of performances coming up for families to experience together! Plastic Drastic Fantastic by Akademi is a contemporary dance theatre work which draws from Indian classical dance form Bharatanatyam and South Asian dance techniques. This explores humanity’s complex relationship with plastics – the fantastic possibilities they offer, as well as the drastic consequences to the environment. Why not make a day out of it and explore the fascinating properties of plastic in their workshop, for young people aged 7-12 years, through movement-based play, and experiment with unconventional ways to upcycle.

Underwater choreographer, Xenia Aidonopoulou is returning to DanceEast this season with Skydiver – a theatrical adventure for families with little ones aged 3-5 years. This multi-sensory dance experience will transport you to a dream-like world; up among the fluffy clouds, where flocks of birds and butterflies flutter.

Are you a fan of Mary Poppins? Then you do not want to miss out on the Glass House Dance Love Dance Day. Experience the joy of dance and get your groove on with a Family Workshop and Dance Along Mary Poppins Workshop on Sunday 12 November! Fun for all the family to get involved in.

To get you and your family in the festive spirit why not experience Arthur Pita’s magical storytelling in the enchanting dance-theatre production of The Little Match Girl. Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story, beautifully reimagined through dance, song and Frank Moon’s atmospheric music, The Little Match Girl will get everyone in the festive mood!

We don’t just have performances for you to enjoy, we also have lots of exciting workshops coming up. Baby Loves to Boogie returns this week and only has a few tickets left, so if you want to join us book your space now. Join us for our forest themed disco where you will be guided through games with props and movement exercises, all developed to nurture your little one’s natural love of movement in a structured, yet relaxing environment.

Looking for something to do in half term? Join us for an exciting day of dance this October Term in either a Boys Dance Day or a Dance Day on Monday 23rd October. You will take part in practical workshops, watch some incredible performances, and be inspired by other young people.

National Youth Ballet, in partnership with DanceEast and Angela Rowe School of Dance, are hosting a dancers development experience on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th October. You will have the chance to work together as a company alongside members of the NYB creative team and experience the process of creating work with a professional choreographer.

Our regular class programme is underway, with a variety of dance classes for young people. You can now book on to join our classes. Dance for Tots classes, for ages 1-4, develops balance, coordination, and imagination. Our Creative Dance Classes inspire children aged 4-11 to use their imagination to boost their dance skills, while Youth Contemporary is a fun, exciting hour of high energy dance for ages 11-16, designed to improve their contemporary technique, and develop choreographic skills. New to the programme this term is a Breakdance class for 11-16 years. Develop your dance skill set and learn some new tricks.

When visiting the DanceHouse, why not take a moment to relax in our café. We have a range of delicious weekly specials and light bites, as well as plenty of Paddy and Scotts coffee and cake. Our foyer space is also open too, if you need to warm up in the colder months or just to relax. We hope to see you and your family here soon.
