We are delighted to announce that we are now able to start a phased reopening of the Jerwood DanceHouse. Core office staff have been happily working in the DanceHouse for the past month, ensuring that the building is fully COVID secure, with a range of safety protocols in place. Artists are starting a socially distanced return to our studios and we will shortly be welcoming our Centre for Advanced Training and University students back to the building to start their training.
For now our class programme will still be delivered online, and we have an exciting range of live classes going on sale from Monday 31 August. We will be sharing more news soon on our plans to restart performances within the building, with some really special things in the pipeline. In the meantime, watch this space for some new activity for children and young people…
It has been very difficult to know how best to respond to the shocking event in America and the inspiring Global reaction that followed. We have been using this time to reflect as we are critically aware that we need to take responsibility for our actions and indeed, any lack of action in the past.
We have embarked in a dialogue with artists and peers across and beyond the arts and cultural sector to understand how we can best contribute to combatting systemic racism. We therefore take this opportunity to state that we support the Black Lives Matter movement and we understand that we should be judged on how we champion change and meet the challenges ahead.
