Internationally acclaimed choreographer Jasmin Vardimon, returns to DanceEast this autumn with her ground-breaking new production. It is a piece that resonates with the emotional depth of her 2003 breakthrough work, Lullaby, which established her as an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells and won her numerous awards.

Now, she revisits and expands that world.

Against the backdrop of a cold, clinical hospital landscape, she delves deeper into the fragile dualities of our human life – joy and despair, vulnerability and resilience, sickness and wellbeing – as she focuses on what should be at the heart of society: care.

As always, Vardimon explores these emotional highs and lows of human life with her trademark fusion of wit, raw honesty, and contrasting theatricality.

Whether you are new to dance, already love dance performances, are an existing fan of Jasmin or a visual arts fan in general, you’ll be captivated as she confronts the theme of healthcare and care with striking imagery and deeply human storytelling.

About Jasmin Vardimon MBE and Jasmin Vardimon Company

Jasmin Vardimon MBE

A leading force in British dance theatre for twenty five years, Jasmin Vardimon has built a reputation for challenging, exciting and visually stunning dance and continues to add to the body of critically acclaimed, artistically respected yet accessible work both for the Jasmin Vardimon Company, which she formed in 1998, and for some of the leading arts institutions she works with across the world.

With sharp instincts and provocative daring, she has developed an individual choreographic voice, distinguished by her beautifully detailed movement, insightful humour, and engaging drama.

Born and raised on Kibbutz Ein Hahoresh in Israel, Jasmin Vardimon was a member of the Kibbutz Dance Company for five years and in 1995 was awarded the prestigious British Council ‘On the Way to London’ Choreography Award. This was to take her on a journey that saw her move to the UK permanently, going on to create Jasmin Vardimon Company (previously Zbang) for which she has created some of her most memorable work.

Jasmin has been an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells since 2006.
In 2018 her choreography on the video for Paloma Faith’s single Loyal, was nominated for Best Choreography at the UK Music Video Awards. Other commissions include choreography for the Royal Opera House (Tannhäuser, 2010 & 2016), Lyric Opera of Chicago (Tannhäuser, 2015) and for ROH2′s OperaShots season with composer Graham Fitkin at the Linbury Studio (Home, 2012). Jasmin has also received commissions with Bitef Theatre Belgrade, Hellenic Dance Athens, CandoCo, WID, Bare Bones, Transitions and curating the Dance Ballads Festival at the Ovalhouse.

Jasmin has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Wolverhampton since 2011. She developed a Higher Education programme for dancers and actors, led by her company as a postgraduate certificate at Royal Holloway University London; in 2012 launched JV2, a full-time Professional Development Diploma programme; and in 2016, the JVIntensive programme. In 2014 she received an honorary doctorate from Royal Holloway, University of London. In 2018 she received an honorary fellowship from the Institute Arts Barcelona.

Two books exploring her work have been published to date: Jasmin Vardimon’s Dance Theatre, Movement, Memory and Metaphor (2017) by Libby Worth, published by Routledge and Justitia: Multidisciplinary Readings of the Work of the Jasmin Vardimon Company (2016), edited by Paul Johnson and Sylwia Dobkowska, published by Intellect. Both books add to the educational resources offered by the company.

With the opening of JV H.O.M.E, a new building located in Ashford, Kent and dedicated to the company’s research, creation and multi-disciplinary creative learning programme, Artistic Director Jasmin Vardimon continues to add to an extensive body of critically acclaimed, artistically respected work both for her own Company and for some of the world’s leading arts institutions that she has collaborated with across the world.

Having developed a uniquely individual choreographic voice, distinguished by beautifully detailed movement, insightful humour, and engaging drama, Vardimon is renowned for her physical and theatrical style. Incorporating innovative technologies, text and dance, her work is accentuated with an acute observation of human behaviour. As such, it is widely accessible, socially relevant, and always delivered by her company dancers with passion, skill, and commitment.

Jasmin Vardimon has been an Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells since 2006, and her company tours nationally and internationally, performing at high profile theatres throughout the World.
