Emerging from HOST in 2022, a day that celebrated dance and age, Home From Home is a creative collaboration of 50 dancers aged over 50 led by Artistic Director Luca Silvestrini (Protein Dance).
Dancers from EncoreEast, Cadenza, The Place Dancers and Damn Fine Dance have created works with Alethia Antonia, Laura Anderson, Alleyne Dance, Molly Wright and Luke Birch which form the basis of a performance created by renowned choreographer Luca Silvestrini.
Home From Home is devised and produced by EncoreEast.

LUCA SILVESTRINI
Luca is Artistic Director of award-winning company Protein, one of the most distinctive voices in British dance theatre, which he co-founded in 1997. Born in Jesi, Italy, Luca studied Performing Arts at Bologna University and in 1995 he moved to London to complete his dance training at Trinity Laban.
Known for his unique combination of choreography, music, spoken word and social commentary, Luca’s work presents everyday life in revealing and subversive ways both on-and-off stage. Luca has stamped his personality on large-scale, cross-generational events and through Protein’s Real Life Real Dance programme, he has created ground-breaking participatory performance opportunities for disadvantaged and disengaged people.
Over the last 25 years, Luca has also made work for Galili Dance, Wapping Project, Royal Opera House, Transitions, CandoCo, Bare Bones, Intoto, Verve, From Here To Maturity, Company of Elders at Sadler’s Wells, Sankalpalm, HeadSpace Dance and Sardoville. Theatre and opera credits include work for English National Opera, Theatre Rites, Royal Court Theatre, Duckie and Youth Music Theatre UK.
Luca has won the Jerwood Choreography Award, the Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award, The Place Prize Audience Award (2006) and was one of the first recipients of the Rayne Fellowship for Choreographers. Most recently he has been awarded the prestigious Premio della Critica by the Italian Associazione Nazionale Critici di Teatro for his work in dance and Premio Vallesina for Culture. In 2023, Protein received The Stage Award for Community Project of the Year. Luca is an Affiliate Artist at The Place and Protein is a Resident Artistic Company at Woolwich Works, London.
ENCOREEAST
EncoreEast is a performance company of older dancers. We exist to promote dance by and for older people, seeking to achieve creative, artistic and performance innovation and excellence. We create and perform in both traditional and site-specific spaces for live, screen and on-line audiences.
Aiming to make dance accessible and relevant to a wide range of people, we work to create positive perceptions of ageing. We offer work opportunities for professional artists to teach, create and exchange learning with older dancers. We promote public understanding of, and advocate for dance, through activities including workshops, creative projects, conferences, research, blogs and our website.

CADENZA
Cadenza is a dance company for older adults based in Norfolk. At the core of our work is a shared set of values: We aim to be inspired and inspiring; to infuse all that we do with creativity and joy and to respect all members.
We offer opportunities for people over 50 to dance and welcome all levels of dance experience. We host classes in contemporary and ballet as well as creating work for performance. DAMN FINE DANCE
Damn Fine Dance is a London based performing company. We present older performers as vibrant, courageous. Drawing from the vast experience and generosity of our performers we challenge notions of how older people are presented as dancers.

THE PLACE
The Place Dancer’s for Home From Home are a new unique cohort of participants who currently attend our Over 60’s classes.
