DanceEast welcomes James Cousins Company and Boy Blue back for another exciting GCSE Dance Day. Join us for a day of workshops which will explore Within Her Eyes and Emancipation of Expressionism. The workshops will then be followed by an evening performance of Shechter II‘s From England with Love.
JAMES COUSINS COMPANY
Based on Within Her Eyes the workshop content has been designed by the company in collaboration with experienced GCSE dance teachers to make clear links to the GCSE specification and aim to:
- Introduce the choreographic themes
- Allow pupils to ask questions about transferring a work from stage to film
- Discuss the production features and their link to the choreographic intention
- Demonstrate key phrases from the work that makes links to the dance idea
- Teach pupils a key sequence from the work
- Develop pupils contact and choreographic skills to support both their understanding of the work and their own performance and choreographic work
- Inspire pupils with a unique opportunity to work with experienced professional dancers.
BOY BLUE
In this workshop, students will work through a programme of creative tasks and exercises that unpick the ideas and themes of Emancipation of Expressionism. Led by a Boy Blue dance practitioner, the workshop will provide your students with the tools to recreate and reimagine the production.
PERFORMANCE
Following the workshops, students will experience an exciting new performance from Shechter II. From England with Love is an ode to this intricate and beautiful country. Through Shechter’s choreography, the dancers evoke the paradox at the heart of this open, generous, and soul-searching place, conflicted by its dark history and powerful attachment to old traditions. They draw us into their search for identity and self-knowledge. Performed to a rich score that clashes the breath-taking sounds of English composers with raging rock music alongside echoes of choir and electronics.
