We were incredibly sad to learn of the Death of Alan Grieve CBE, Chairman Emeritus of Jerwood Foundation.
Alan founded the Foundation for John Jerwood in 1977, and helped shape the Foundation’s mission. During his tenure Alan was instrumental in granting over £113 million in capital and arts projects in the UK.
Jerwood Foundation’s support for DanceEast has been unwavering. They have remained a key partner since the initial substantial investment in our wonderful building, which secured the success of our capital campaign and enabled the Jerwood DanceHouse to be built: a gift that has proven transformative for Ipswich, East Anglia, and the UK’s dance sector.
We received further support from Jerwood Foundation, including investment in the enhancement of the digital infrastructure at the DanceHouse. This enabled DanceEast to stay at the forefront of dance works that explore the relationship between technology and live performance. Most recently the Foundation has supported our commissioning programme, securing our position as one of the key players in the development of new dance works in the UK.
Alan’s legacy across the arts is phenomenal. His care and concern for the future of DanceEast has been amazing and we will be poorer without his guidance and good nature. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all our colleagues at the Jerwood Foundation.
