On Saturday 27 April 2024, we are pleased to be working with Akram Kham Company to bring to Ipswich a day celebrating South Asian Dance.
Dance schools, dance groups, and community groups across Suffolk and beyond are invited to join us at the Jerwood DanceHouse for workshops, refreshments, and to watch the enchanting Chotto Desh by Akram Khan Company.

Join Amy Butler, rehearsal director for Akram Khan Company, to explore the stories and characters from the show, Chotto Desh. This workshop is family friendly, for big people and little people to move together, and no dance experience is required.

We invite you to arrive from 1.30pm onwards on Saturday afternoon to relax in our foyer and enjoy themed arts and crafts activities with the whole family before the show begins. You can also keep little ones entertained in our café – discover our children’s corner with fancy dress, books, and toys!

DanceEast is delighted to be bringing back Akram Khan’s much-loved family friendly production of Chotto Desh after it premiered at the DanceHouse in 2015. Returning to vapture the attention of a new generation of younger audiences, this adaptation of Akram Khan’s award-winning solo and critically acclaimed piece DESH, is a heart-warming story that follows a young man trying to find his place in the world.
Kathak and contemporary dance are mixed with spoken text, dreamlike animation, visuals, and specially composed music, to create an enchanting and poignant dance-theatre experience for children and their families to enjoy together.
