Building confidence & creativity through movement
What to expect
Classes are led by Katie Shepherd and a range of visiting guest artists, giving students the opportunity to experience different creative approaches and teaching styles throughout the year. Sessions introduce the foundations of contemporary dance, helping young people develop strength, coordination, musicality and confidence in movement.
Students explore a wide range of movement qualities, travelling through space, floor work, balance, rhythm and creative movement, while gradually building the physical skills and technical understanding needed for contemporary dance.
Alongside technical development, Katie encourages curiosity, creativity and collaborative learning. Through improvisation, choreographic tasks and group activities, students are supported to explore their own ideas, develop confidence, work as part of a team and discover their individual artistic voice in a positive and encouraging environment.
Throughout the year, students have opportunities to share their work in informal studio sharings for parents and carers, celebrating their progress, creativity and growing confidence as performers.
