A Creative Workshop Contributing to Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026

A supportive and creative day to explore how death touches us, and moves us towards life.
This experiential and creative workshop welcomes anyone touched by dying or loss – whether you have lost a partner, parent, child or someone special, are living with life-limiting illness, caring for someone at the end of life, or feel drawn to exploring your relationship with death.

What to expect

Participants will be invited into a gently held, relational space to explore how death has touched their lives and discover how listening to this experience can guide and move them towards deeper connection, meaning, and aliveness. Through the support of creative and embodied practices, we will explore what comes alive in us when we meet death with compassion, presence and curiosity, including:
  • Personal inquiry and reflection
  • Sharing and witnessing in pairs and small groups
  • Movement, breath, and body-based awareness
  • Reflective writing and journaling
  • Drawing and visual expression
  • Music, voice, and sound
  • Silence and presence
  • Optional, consensual, guided touch – offered as a quiet, supportive, witnessing presence within personal boundaries.  Participation may take place in pairs, through self-guided touch, or by witnessing the group.

A gentle, supportive day

This experiential day invites you to come as you are and be supported by community, care and creativity. It offers opportunities for connection, insight, and practices that participants may choose to integrate beyond the day.
No prior experience is needed. All practices are offered gently and invitationally, with space to choose the pace, depth, and forms of participation that feel right for you. While the day may offer emotional resonance or personal insight, it is not a substitute for therapeutic or clinical support. Creative expression is welcomed as a life-affirming process of exploration, not performance, allowing each individual to respond in their own time and in their own way.

About St Elizabeth Hospice

This full-day workshop has been brought together for Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026 by St Elizabeth Hospice and DanceEast, and the day will be facilitated by Trauma Therapist, Somatic Movement Practitioner and Soul Midwife, Lucy Anna Howgego, alongside team members from St Elizabeth Hospice, who will be present throughout the day to offer compassion, listening, and witnessing to any participant experiencing waves of grief or intense emotional response, ensuring emotional safety and integration for all attendees.
